News: Latest Dexter Season 6 Trailer + Analysis

Here is the newest promo for Season 6 of Dexter set to Marilyn Manson's "Personal Jesus".

This one is certainly the longest and most comprehensive trailer we have seen so far.

It also features guest stars Mos Def, Colin Hanks, Brea Grant and Edward James Olmos, though there are not many more clues as to how they will relate to Dexter, apart from the fact that there is some sort of religion-based plot afoot.

Among the many snippets of scenes we get to see, there will be many that will get fans very excited: Dexter seems to have a lot of people back on his table this season, the first of which seems to be a guy who has killed his wife... and has a tattoo of Jesus.

At 0:44 we also see that Dexter has been shot.

There are also some more cryptic images, such as various shots of statues of Jesus, as well as one of what looks to be a blood-soaked hand.
And what is this symbol?

And whose hand is this running over Dexter's slides at 1:42?

And will Dexter be receiving even more female attention this season?

At the very least, Masuka might be, with Brea Grant playing his "intern" this season- she has been described as his "perfect match".

Here they are taking what looks to be a severed hand out of a box.

And here's Mos Def, playing a " hardened ex-con who claims to have found religion yet seems to continually find himself surrounded by violence. Michael C. Hall’s Dexter will reveal the truth of who he really is." (Hollywood Reporter)
And Colin Hanks as an artefacts expert - he will be Dexter's main nemesis this season (but there will not be a "big bad" this season).

And finally, Edward James Olmos as an enlightened religious studies professor.

It also features the tagline: "This Season He'll Make You A Believer".

Dexter Season 6 Premieres October 2 on Showtime.

Did you notice anything else in this trailer? How do you think all the guest star characters will fit in to the overall arc of the season?

Today's 5 biggest stories...

1. South Park has been RENEWED through to 2013 - this will take it up to 17 seasons (EW)

2. Here's your first look at a poster for the new CW show "Ringer" starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ioan Gruffudd  and Nestor Carbonell from Lost - the show's tagline is "The Ultimate Double Cross" (EW)

3. Dexter Boss Sara Colleton has revealed about the show's upcoming sixth season "(Dexter’s) at the top of his game in every way" and of the show's long-term future "Every year we are as excited as we were about the previous year... as long as there are new, profound ways of examining human nature, the show stays fresh. When we feel we have reached that end, nobody on the show wants to start treading water. When that will be, we’ll know when we get there, but I don’t see it as an imminent thing." (TVLine)

4. Fran Drescher seems to have shaken off any "Nanny" stereotyping with the news that her new TV Land sitcom "Happily Divorced" (she is a co-writer as well as acting in it) has been renewed for a twelve episode second season. While critics have been quite scathing in their appraisals, it's clear there is still a hunger in viewers for schlocky sitcoms. (Hollywood Reporter)

5. In more Dexter news, here is your first look at Dexter Season 6, featuring shots of Mos Def and Colin Hanks, among others (The TV Addict).

News: Dexter, Breaking Bad, Lost favourites find new roles

Dexter actor David Ramsey, last seen in Season 3 of Dexter, will be appearing in the second season of Blue Bloods on CBS.

He played the role of "Anton Briggs", the boyfriend of Debra Morgan.

Breaking Bad revelation Giancarlo Esposito has also joined Once Upon a Time, the ABC drama series which will premiere this US fall season. He will be playing the role of Sidney/The Magic Mirror.

In Breaking Bad, currently in its fourth season, he is currently playing the role of menacing druglord Gus Fring, to great acclaim.

But rest assured, Breaking Bad fans, he will stay on the AMC drama, as the fourth series has finished filming, allowing him to act on the ABC drama.

Finally, AOL reports that Titus Welliver, who played the "Man in Black" in the final season of Lost will be heading to FX's new series Powers. The show is based on a comic book and is based on detectives who investigate crimes involving people with superhuman abilities. It hasn't yet been picked up to series, but it sure sounds promising.

Dexter Season 6 Gossip (Spoilers)

Just some interesting tidbits floating around regarding Season 6 of Dexter.

This great Dexter news blog has reported that Dexter Season 6 is filming in front of a local preschool. This is in keeping with Michael Ausiello's theory of a time-jump which would see Dexter's son Harrison a bit older and in pre-school.

Screen Junkies also has picked up on the fact that Brea Grant has joined the cast of Season 6... she has also hinted that she will be in a white lab coat.

This will be added to the DEXTER SHOW FILE of course.

LATEST NEWS

May 28

  • This great Dexter news blog has reported that Dexter Season 6 is filming in front of a local preschool. This is in keeping with Michael Ausiello's theory of a time-jump which would see Dexter's son Harrison a bit older and in pre-school.

  • Screen Junkies also has picked up on the fact that Brea Grant has joined the cast of Season 6... she has also hinted that she will be in a white lab coat.

What do we know?

The core cast will remain intact, and here it is;

Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan

Dexter's Family

Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan

James Remar as Harry Morgan

Preston Bailey as Cody Bennett

Christina Robinson as Astor Bennett

Dexter's Colleagues - Miami PD

Lauren Vélez as Lt. Maria LaGuerta

David Zayas as Sgt. Angel Batista

C.S. Lee as Vince Masuka

Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn

What's New?

As has come to be the norm, there are some tantalising additions to the cast;

  • Edward James Olmos ("Battlestar Galactica") - A brilliant and charismatic professor of religious studies (Source: TVLine)

  • Mos Def ("Be Kind Rewind") - Unnamed antagonist

  • Colin Hanks - A "highly intelligent young expert on ancient artifacts" (Digital Spy). Will be playing a "villain" in the series, however, given that producers have stated that there will not be a "big bad" such as Miguel or Trinity. it is likely that he won't be the central focus, nor the only major antagonist.

  • Aimee Garcia - The new nanny (replacing Maria Doyle Kennedy)

  • Billy Brown - ("Lights Out") has joined the cast as Chicago Mike (Hollywood Reporter)

  • Brea Grant - ("Heroes") Unknown role, will be appearing in a white lab coat.

There are also some new characters, TVLine reports:
Jamie: Described as an outgoing and fun Latina in her mid-20s, this Florida native relocates to Miami for grad school.

(Possibly Aimee Garcia's role?)
Chicago Mike: (HAS NOW BEEN CAST) New thirtysomething African-American homicide detective who possesses a finely turned BS detector. The Windy City native does not play well with others.

Louis: A buddy of Masuka’s (C.S. Lee) who joins MMP as a new lab intern. Role calls for a Caucasian actor in his 30s who is “attractive in his own way."

Also, "... An elementary school teacher."

Number Crunch

Production on the sixth series started May 25 in Los Angeles.

The show will premiere September 25. 2011.

There will be 12 episodes in Season 6, bringing the total up to 72 episodes.

Rumour Mill (Unconfirmed)

  • Screenrant reports on speculation that Vince Masuka will die in the premiere episode.

  • Many have stated that Debra could finally find out about Dexter's secret life, especially when you look at the tagline:

"This fall... all hell breaks loose"

And the quote on TVLine:
“There will be a microscope on the Deb/Dexter relationship this season,” Nevins revealed. “Over time you’re going to see that relationship evolve and change, no questions about it.”

  • TVLine also floats the possibility of there being a time-jump of a considerable period of time (ie. more than a couple of years).

  • Television Blend believes the season could be centred around the theme of "religion".

And here's the teaser trailer:

Showtime Renewal and Cancellation Wrap

Note: As Showtime's premiere dates differ significantly from normal programming, "Renewal" refers to- in some cases- being granted another season, despite having not premiered yet.

It is also difficult to judge returning shows which haven't yet had their premieres.

But, as always, this page will update as soon as ratings are released.

Dexter

Renewed for a SIXTH SEASON, to air in late 2011.

Shameless

Renewed for a SECOND SEASON, to air in 2012.

Californication

Renewed for a FIFTH SEASON, to air in early 2012.

Episodes

The first season didn't win a great deal of praise, but was still a nice little show for Showtime, so a SECOND SEASON will air in early 2011.

Weeds

A thirteen episode SEVENTH SEASON will return on Monday June 27th, with an eighth season likely to finish off the series.

Nurse Jackie

A THIRD SEASON will premiere on March 28th, and if it continues to appear to the same critical acclaim, it will almost certainly get a fourth.

United States of Tara

Still going strong into its THIRD SEASON, with a premiere set for March 28th. You wouldn't think a show with a dream team of Diablo Cody and Steven Spielberg would be going anywhere anytime soon.

The Big C

Was among Showtime's best performers in 2010, so a third season commission would be an obvious decision if its SECOND SEASON performs equally or even a touch worse than its first season.

The Borgias

An historical fiction drama, based on the Spanish Borgia dynasty, and starring Jeremy Irons.
