• This great Dexter news blog has reported that Dexter Season 6 is filming in front of a local preschool. This is in keeping with Michael Ausiello's theory of a time-jump which would see Dexter's son Harrison a bit older and in pre-school.


• Screen Junkies also has picked up on the fact that Brea Grant has joined the cast of Season 6... she has also hinted that she will be in a white lab coat.

What's New?

As has come to be the norm, there are some tantalising additions to the cast;

• Edward James Olmos ("Battlestar Galactica") - A brilliant and charismatic professor of religious studies (Source: TVLine)


• Mos Def ("Be Kind Rewind") - Unnamed antagonist


• Colin Hanks - A "highly intelligent young expert on ancient artifacts" (Digital Spy). Will be playing a "villain" in the series, however, given that producers have stated that there will not be a "big bad" such as Miguel or Trinity. it is likely that he won't be the central focus, nor the only major antagonist.


• Aimee Garcia - The new nanny (replacing Maria Doyle Kennedy)


• Billy Brown - ("Lights Out") has joined the cast as Chicago Mike (Hollywood Reporter)


• Brea Grant - ("Heroes") Unknown role, will be appearing in a white lab coat.

There are also some new characters, TVLine reports:

Jamie: Described as an outgoing and fun Latina in her mid-20s, this Florida native relocates to Miami for grad school.

(Possibly Aimee Garcia's role?)

Chicago Mike: (HAS NOW BEEN CAST) New thirtysomething African-American homicide detective who possesses a finely turned BS detector. The Windy City native does not play well with others.

Louis: A buddy of Masuka’s (C.S. Lee) who joins MMP as a new lab intern. Role calls for a Caucasian actor in his 30s who is “attractive in his own way."

Also, "... An elementary school teacher."

Number Crunch

Production on the sixth series started May 25 in Los Angeles.

The show will premiere September 25. 2011.

There will be 12 episodes in Season 6, bringing the total up to 72 episodes.

Rumour Mill (Unconfirmed)

• Screenrant reports on speculation that Vince Masuka will die in the premiere episode.

• Many have stated that Debra could finally find out about Dexter's secret life, especially when you look at the tagline:

"This fall... all hell breaks loose"

And the quote on TVLine:

“There will be a microscope on the Deb/Dexter relationship this season,” Nevins revealed. “Over time you’re going to see that relationship evolve and change, no questions about it.”

• TVLine also floats the possibility of there being a time-jump of a considerable period of time (ie. more than a couple of years).

• Television Blend believes the season could be centred around the theme of "religion".

Renewal an Cancellation Wrap: March 25th

RENEWALS

Futurama has been renewed for a SEVENTH SEASON by Comedy Central (according to Deadline). It certainly has come a long way after being cancelled by Fox way back in 2003 after its fourth season. It's got a long way to catch up to its over-achieving older sibling (which, in case you don't know, it is the Simpsons, which has a twenty-third season still to come).

However, future episodes will come in a rather staggered fashion, with 13 eps of season six still to come later this year, 13 eps of season seven to come in 2012 and the second half of thirteen episodes to come in 2013.

CANCELLATIONS

This moderately critically acclaimed drama Lights Out struggled somewhat in the ratings, so has been axed by FX after only its FIRST SEASON. It didn't receive the same level of fanatic adoration as FX's last cancelled show, Terriers, and this cancellation isn't likely to incite any riots in the streets. I guess the notion of a show centered around a boxer wasn't exciting or different enough for most people.

The League: Here's why it hasn't been picked up Working against it: No big names in the cast, about the NFL, and many player-based jokes will go completely of Australian viewers' heads. Working for it: Youth appeal, fantasy football leagues are extremely popular in Australia.
Would make a great fit on 7mate.

Louie: Critically acclaimed for it's unique style and fluid episodic structure- currently filming it's SECOND SEASON. Yet the first season has aired in the US and will air in Australia on Foxtel in 2011.
It would be a great fit on Ten, with Ten typically choosing portrait pieces such as House, Becker, Lie to Me, Monk, Merlin, Offspring and previously Dexter and Californication.

Lights Out: Currently in its FIRST SEASON, and also receiving high praise for its raw drama.
Working against it: No big stars, slow-burning.
Working for it: Would capitalise on the popularity of The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg.
Would do well on Nine and its showcase of gritty Australian drama in Underbelly.

Terriers: Though it has been cancelled after its FIRST SEASON, by all accounts it was a superb show. Would still be worth a run.

Archer: Currently in its SECOND SEASON, this animated spy comedy would slot right in to Eleven's Animation Fixation programming block of The Simpsons, Futurama, King of the Hill, the Cleveland Show and Bob's Burgers

Justified: Another acclaimed show which has finished its FIRST SEASON with its SECOND SEASON still to come.
Not as flashy as a Burn Notice so it wouldn't fit on Ten, so it would be most appreciated on SBS with Mad Men.

Luckily, Australian viewers have been treated to some FX shows such as;

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: In Australia, Seven has aired four seasons and is currently up to its FIFTH SEASON (episode twelve) on 7mate. However, in the US it is up to its SIXTH SEASON with a SEVENTH SEASON in the works.

And Sons of Anarchy: Will air soon on Eleven. This is creating considerable excitement, with it now finished its THIRD SEASON in the US, with its FOURTH SEASON to air in 2011. Eleven will certainly get a good run out of SOA, with there being a whopping 39 unaired episodes in total.
