It's called twenty something and stars Jess Harris (best known from her work on Rove) and Josh Schmidt as well, Jess and Josh and is about two "best friends" and "housemates" who are both "twentysomething" years old, the series picks up "when Jess and Josh find themselves unemployed, evicted and constantly dodging the dreaded question, “So what are you going to do with your lives?”, they decide it’s time to become their own bosses.
twentysomething sees Jess and Josh set out each week in search of their big break. Their entrepreneurial pursuits include an erotic house cleaning service, guided tours that show backpackers Melbourne in a new light, an elite babysitters’ agency and bounty hunting for lost dogs.
The ABC calls it a "brilliant, hilarious, and at times moving six-part comedy series" and will apparently "leave you smiling and wondering where these two have been hiding until now."
Let's hope it does, as this year has been devoid of much in the way of comedy, particularly that of the scripted variety.
You can see a sneak peek here. It doesn't look too bad at all, and with the promise of Hamish Blake in the series, it should bring a bit more attention the show.
It's just so disappointing that the ABC has decided to stick it on its digital channel ABC2- something which will see it get maybe a quarter of its potential audience.
I get that the ABC wants to beef up its digital offerings, but to most viewers, putting a first-run show on a digital channel signals that it is not good enough to make the main one.
Nevertheless, perhaps it will garner a cult following and make the jump for a second series.
It will premiere on ABC2 on Tuesday, September 6 at 9pm.
